Sheikh Mohd Saifuddin BIN SHEIKH MOHD SALLEH
Shaikh Mohd Saifuddeen bin Shaikh Mohd Salleh is currently Senior Fellow and Director at the Centre for Science and Environment Studies, Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur. This is his second tenure at the institute having previously served the institute between 1998 and 2005. He was previously Senior Lecturer and Consultant at the Programme for Applied Sciences and Islamic Studies at the Academy of Islamic Studies, the University of Malaya between September 2012 and December 2014; and Executive Director of a private consulting firm, Yayasan Ilmuwan between December 2005 and August 2012.
He holds a degree in chemistry and a master’s degree in business administration from the University of Glasgow, as well as a master’s degree in history and philosophy of science, and a doctorate degree in the same field from the University of Malaya.
He is a member of the Public Awareness Action Committee on Organ Donation, under the auspices of the Ministry of Health Malaysia. He contributes regularly to awareness programmes organised by the National Transplant Resource Centre (NTRC) in promoting organ donation. He is also involved with a number of committees such as member of the Research Ethics Committee, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) and distinguished fellow of the research advisory committee of the Malaysian Biotechnology Information Centre (MABIC). He has recently been appointed as an affiliate member of the National Bioethics Council of Malaysia.
He has edited 20 academic books published by publishers such as University of Malaya Press, IKIM Press, the Ministry of Health, and the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment. He has written nearly 50 academic articles published in books and journals.
In terms of research, he has been involved in a number of research projects in particular on issues of Islam and science. His research interest is applied Islamic ethics.
Mohd Farid BIN MOHD SHAHRAN
Dr. Mohd Farid Mohd Shahran obtained his bachelor degree from the International Islamic University Malaysia (IIUM) in the field of Islamic Studies with a specialization in Islamic Jurisprudence and Principle of Islamic Jurisprudence. He then pursued his M.A. and Ph.D. in the International Institute of Islamic Thought and Civilization Malaysia (ISTAC) in the field of Islamic Thought in 1999 and 2006 respectively. He worked as a Research Fellow in ISTAC for eight years (1995-2003) before he served as a lecturer in Department of Theology and Comparative Religion, Kulliyyah of Islamic Revealed Knowledge and Heritage, IIUM from 2003-2011. Currently he is working as a Senior Fellow and Director in the Centre for the Study of Shariah, Law and Politics, Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM). His fields of interest are Islamic thought, education, law and politics. He is also involved in several committees at the national level in Malaysia particular concerning Islamic Thought and Ethics.
Zaidi ISMAIL
Azrina binti Sobian obtained her bachelor degree from University of Malaya in the field of Environmental Studies in 1998. She pursued her study in Hiroshima University and obtained her Msc. in Environmental Economics in 2001. Previously, she was a tutor in Faculty of Arts and Social Science, University Malaya. She joined Institute of Islamic Understanding Malaysia (IKIM) in 2002 as a Research Officer and in 2005 she was promoted to a Fellow at the Centre for Science and Environment Studies, IKIM. She has edited seven academic books published by IKIM Press and has written about 15 academic articles published in books and journals. Azrina binti Sobian is also a member of National Bioethics Council of Malaysia since 2012. In terms of research, she has been involved in a number of research projects in particular on issues of Islam and environment. Other than that, she is also interested in other research topics such as environmental education, science education, science communication and, creativity and innovation.

Ms.HABIBAH BINTI ABDUL WAHID
Habibah binti Abdul Wahid was born on 21 April 1991. She obtained her bachelor’s degree from University of Malaya (UM) in October 2015 in the field of Islamic Jurisprudence and Principle of Islamic Jurisprudence. Previously, she had done her internship at Terengganu Syariah Judiciary Department for two months. Now she is pursuing her master in the field of Islamic Jurisprudence and social science. Her master’s research is related to flood management in Malaysia. Her fields of interest are Islamic law, management and health. She also has participated in several seminars in Malaysia.
Dr. Nur Nafhatun binti Md. Shariff
She started with BA Syariah in Islamic Astronomy, then MSc in Science & Technology Studies and then PhD in Science & Technology Studies (on sustainability). She obtained all her degrees from Universiti Malaya (UM). Previously, she was once a tutor at Department of Fiqh & Usul (Academy of Islamic Studies, UM) and a fellow at Department of Science & Technology Studies (Faculty of Science, UM). Currently, she just stepped in career as a senior lecturer at Academy of Contemporary Islamic Studies (ACIS), Universiti Teknologi MARA.
Her academic background is kind of divergent, hence her research interests. Her current research interests are best depicted as Venn diagram below:
Mr. Ahmad Bakrin Sofawi bin Abu Bakar
Ahmad Bakrin Sofawi bin Abu Bakar is currently working as Research Assistant (Administrative) at Institute of Halal Research, University of Malaya (IHRUM) and at the same time as a Master Degree candidate in Environmental Science. He was previously Research Assistant (Research) at Coastal Development and Research, Department of Civil Engineering, Faculty of Engineering, University of Malaya between September 2012 and March 2015.
He graduated from University of Malaya in October 2012 in Bachelor Degree of Applied Science With Islamic Studies majoring in Science and Environmental Management. He was also an Alumni of International Training Course on “Mangrove Biodiversity and Ecosystem” held in Annamalai University, India. This programme sponsored by United Nations University (UNU), Institute for Water, Environment and Health (INWEH) from September to October 2013.
As a young researcher, he conducted the mangroves research starting from 2011, during his final year project. He continued his passion in mangroves study in Master Degree programme. He has published few conference papers in mangroves research and expected to publish few papers in ISI.
